Sparkbright magazine: Issue 8 « Sparkbright

Ameerah Arjanee is from Mauritius, where she is a first-year university student. She was a Foyle Young Poet 2010, commended Foyle Young Poet 2011, and a runner-up for the Elizabeth Bishop Prize 2011. She has been published in magazines such as Magma, The Cadaverine, YM, The Blue Pencil and Point Barre. Her first collection, ‘to the universe.’, was published in 2011 by l’Atelier d’Ecriture (a small Mauritian publisher). She is the chief poetry editor of the Adroit Journal and is one of the editors of the e-zine The Crocodile. Her favorite animals are not crocodiles, but elephants. She thinks that elephants have big lovely ears and excellent memories.


Sara Brink is a recent college graduate with a degree in English- Publishing Studies and Fine Arts. She’s loved reading and writing since the age of 5, and hopes to work within the publishing industry as an editor someday. She also hopes to live in New York City and get started writing her novel within the coming months.

Describing Abigale LeCavalier is like trying to describe the taste of broccoli flavored ice cream. You just have to experience her for yourself. She calls Earth her “home” for now, but reserves the rite to change that at a future (and unavoidable) date. Abigale writes what she feels, and feels what she writes, every bit.

Tatjana Debeljacki She writes poetry, short stories, stories and haiku. She is a Member of Association of Writers of Serbia -UKS since 2004. She is Haiku Society of Serbia- Deputy editor of Diogen. She also is the editor of the magazine Poeta. She has four books of poetry published.

Gary Glauber is a poet, fiction writer, teacher, and music journalist. His works have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, as well as “Best of the Net.” He took part in The Frost Place’s conference on teaching poetry. Recent poems are published or forthcoming in Kitchen, Manor House Quarterly, Forty Ounce Bachelors, The Whistling Fire, Xenith, Corium Magazine, Petrichor Review, Prompt Literary Journal, The Legendary, and StepAway Magazine.

William J. Joel has been a poet, storyteller and educator for many, many years. Most recently, his work has been accepted for publication in Aunt Chloe and Wolf Moon Journal. In addition to adult poetry, he has written works for children. Since 2008, he has been Contributing Editor for three issues of Appleseeds.

Molly Kat has been writing and reading everything she could get her hands on since she was five years old. She is a poetry editor for Harpur Palate, a graduate student of Literature and Literary Theory, and is starting the daunting process of MFA applications. She has work published or forthcoming in ToadSouck (Exquisite Corpse),Omega Magazine, Foothill Poetry Journal, Pedastal Magazine, Muzzle, Corvus, Toad the Journal, Samizdat, H_NGM_N, and many others. She is a little person with a very big voice. She collects really cool rocks.

Mamta Madhavan is a freelance journalist based in India. She has been writing poems in her second language English since the age of 13. She writes on nature, life, angst, love and relationships. Her poems have been published in print and online literary journals all over. She also pens poems for children which has been published in print journals and newspapers in India. She is a curator at www.gotpoetry.com. She teaches conversational English to under privileged children in a small village in Kerala, India.

Christina Maki lives in Duluth, Minnesota. She has been writing poetry since her early childhood. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History and French from Grand Valley State University. Christina also studied at Paul Cézanne University in Aix-en-Provence, France. She believes in humanity, education and individuality.

Matt Markle is a college student earning his bachelors degree in creative writing at SUNY Newpaltz. Although writing was not always his major academic focus he has always has a need to put his mind on paper, and loves to read the thoughts of others. A poem starts with just one old line and ends with a new thought in anther persons head. He reads, he thinks, he writes, he shares, and he hopes you’ll do the same.

Colm Moore is soon-to-be-finished college student from Ireland. He has shared most of his work on-line where he is plying my trade for the moment. He has always loved writing, and has been writing poems intermittently for approximately the past four years.

David R Morgan has been an arts worker and literature officer, organizer of Book Festivals and writer-in-residence for education authorities, a prison and a psychiatric hospital (which was the subject of a Channel 4 film “Out of Our Minds.” He has had two plays broadcast on ITV “Birthdaze” and “Where’s Melissa?”

B.Z. Niditch is a poet, playwright, fiction writer and teacher. His work is widely published in journals and magazines throughout the world, including: Columbia: A Magazine of Poetry and Art; The Literary Review; Denver Quarterly; Hawaii Review,; Le Guepard (France); Kadmos (France); Prism International; Jejune (Czech Republic); Leopold Bloom (Budapest); Antioch Review; and Prairie Schooner, among others. He lives in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Jon Plunkett works as a psychotherapist and writes poetry as a means of exploring the world around him and his place within in it. His work takes us into the past, present and future, and often leads to places that may or may not exist. Over the past three years his work has appeared in a number of online and in print literary and poetry magazines. The exploration continues.

Kushal Poddar resides in the city of Kolkata , India . Apart from poetries, he has written fictions and scripts for television mini-series as well. His English poems have been published in various online and print magazines all over the world. He is the author of “All Our Fictional Dreams” and been published in “Poor Poet’s Pantry: Collaborative Poems”. The forthcoming book is “Surviving Cyber Life” and “Five Poets: An Anthology”

John Swain lives in Louisville, Kentucky. His work has recently appeared in Red Fez, Up the Staircase, and Yes, Poetry.

James Sykes is a 20 year old student in his second year, studying English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, UK.

Jessica Tyner is originally from Oregon, USA, a member of the Cherokee Nation, and has been a writer and editor for ten years. Currently, she is a senior copy writer for Word Jones, a travel writer with Mucha Costa Rica, a copy editor at the London-based Flaneur Arts Journal, and a contributing editor at New York’s Thalo Magazine. She has recently published short fiction in India’s Out of Print Magazine, and poetry in Slow Trains Literary Journal, Straylight Magazine, Solo Press, and Glint Literary Journal. Her first novel has been picked up by Swift Publishing House. She lives in San José, Costa Rica.

Jenny Walker is a first year student of English Literature at Edinburgh University and is enjoying discovering the Scottish poetry scene and begining to perform some of her poetry. She was a winner of the Young Foyle Poet of the Year competition in 2011 and was shortlisted for the Anne Pierson Award in 2010.

Anthony Ward has been writing in his spare time for a number of years. He has been published in a number of literary magazines including South, Word Gumbo, Drunk Monkeys, Crack the Spine, Message in a Bottle, Torrid Literature Journal, Sparkbright, and Blinking Cursor amongst others.

Gail Wolper has been an avid poet since she could read.Her degree is from University of Colorado in boulder. She lived there for twenty years, then moved to Miami. Her poetry reflects everything around her in life.http://www.sparkbright.org/
