Asahi Shimbunu!

















The haikuist is awake at dawn. Even on the first day of the New Year, she has work to do on her farm. But first, she revels in the morning sunlight and smiles at a young couple who must have stayed up all night long in her barn. Translating a poem by Fusayu Tabata into English about the work of a haikuist, Michael Corr was inspired to compose a reply that leaves us to ponder the sun's heavy burden.
